Making Your Kid's Rooms Fun

About Me

Making Your Kid's Rooms Fun

When I bought my first place, I thought that it would be nice to create high-end, neutral kid's rooms. I figured that I could blend the decor with the design of the rest of the house, which might make more sense. Unfortunately, when it was all said and done, my kid's rooms were boring. Instead of bright colors and interesting themes, each room looked like an extension of my beige living room. However, after finding the right accessories, I was able to transform each space to make it much more fun. Check out this blog for tips on how to make your kid's rooms incredible.

3 Small Changes To Make In Your Kitchen For More Comfort And Calm

Renovating a kitchen is a big job that most people think involves sweeping changes, and that's obviously true to an extent. You're likely changing appliances, maybe changing cabinet locations, possibly ripping up the floor, and so on. But renovating a kitchen also includes smaller changes that are absolutely necessary for health and comfort. You want your kitchen to be a place that promotes peace and nourishment as much as possible. Sometimes it's the little things that can upend that sense of calm by hanging out at the edge of your mind, constantly reminding you that something is off. When you renovate your kitchen, do these three things to put your mind at ease.

Have the Drains Cleared and Change the Garbage Disposal

You can have your sink's drains cleared at any time, and you can change the garbage disposal at any time. Why do them now, specifically? Part of it is that these changes allow your newly renovated kitchen to start off on a clean foot; you don't have the smells of the old disposal, nor do you have this mental imagery of bits of food still stuck there. But also, changing the disposal now means you start off with one that's got the latest tech, new impellers, and a lot longer to go until it needs to be replaced again. As for clearing the drains, no one wants their new kitchen sink to be marred by dirty water and debris from a drain backup. Since you can't see inside the drains yourself, ensure they're cleared out so that slow drains aren't an issue you have to deal with for a while.

Add Layers of Window Coverings

If your renovated kitchen will have a window, install hardware for different layers of window coverings. There will be times you want the window open and the sun shining through, but there will also be times when you want some privacy in addition to light, and a light-filtering curtain may be what you need. During storms, you or other family members may feel more comfortable with the window fully blocked by thick, cozy curtains. By the way, the layers you choose are specific to you and your family, but you may want to install a few more than you plan to use, such as adding a double curtain rod over brackets for blinds even if you plan to use only blinds and a fabric valance yourself. Should you sell your home later on, whoever buys it will be able to install the coverings they want without having to install a lot of ahrdware themselves. Plus, you never know how your own tastes will change over the years.

Change the Light Type and Location

Older kitchens often had one big overhead light that used fluorescent or incandescent bulbs. You'll still want that big, overhead light, but change the fixture so that it can accommodate LED bulbs. Sometimes kitchen light fixtures are too flat for most regular bulbs, requiring people to find special types that aren't always available. Make sure that someone can use a regular LED bulb from the store in these fixtures. Also add spotlights in areas where you might need brighter or more concentrated light. Under cabinets is one such area; you may also want another light over the stove, if you aren't placing a microwave there.
